Taipei, Aug. 2 (CNA) Students from China who register as university students in Taiwan will from Sept. 1 be able to apply for multiple entry/exit permits online on their own, instead of through their universities, the National Immigration Agency (NIA) said Thursday.

According to a NIA statement, it will take about two working days for Chinese students to receive their permits if all the required documents are submitted.

In addition to applying for the multiple entry/exit permits, students from China, Hong Kong and Macau will also be allowed to apply for permit extensions, as well as to update their statuses online when transferring schools or pursuing a higher degree at another university in Taiwan, the statement said.

The statement noted that Chinese students in Taiwan have been using the same online system as those who come to Taiwan for tourism or business, but a new, separate online system currently on trial will be available shortly for them to apply for the documents needed for studying in Taiwan.

The online application method has been available since July 2017, although the application process has to be done through the university in which the student is registered.
