Taiwan orchestra to share the stage with Bocelli in May

Taipei, April 14 (CNA) A Taiwan orchestra will share the stagewith award-winning tenor Andrea Bocelli at two concerts next month inHong Kong and Taipei respectively, one of the organizers announcedWednesday.

"We are pleased and honored to have an opportunity to perform inHong Kong with the renowned tenor, " said Joyce Chiou, the executivedirector of the Philharmonica Taiwan, the National Symphony Orchestra(NSO) which is affiliated with the National Chiang Kai-shek CulturalCenter.

The orchestra will perform with Bocelli May 4 in Hong Kong and atTaipei Arena May 6, said Niu Hsiao Hwa, the head of Management of NewArts (MNA).

The concert will open with "Carmen Overture" and will includeother pieces such as Verdi's "La donna e’mobile -- Rigoletto",Brindisi's "Cavalleria rusticana", Puccini's "O soave fanciulla -- LaBoheme," according to Niu.

"Bocelli was impressed by the central city of Taichung during avisit in 2008 and is pleased to make his Taipei debut this timearound," Niu said.

Bocelli emerged as a vocal phenomenon in the 1990s, from a pianobar singer to an internationally renowned tenor. He has since gone onto become one of the most successful artists of all time, sellingover 65 million albums worldwide.

With one of the most unique voices in the world, his expressedgoal is "to communicate with the listener, to touch his heart in thesame way I was touched as a child by my favorite singers, who made medream and moved me to tears."

In recent years, Bocelli has effortlessly straddled the realms ofboth classical and popular music, winning an impressive array ofprestigious awards, including a Golden Globe for Best Song, Grammyand Academy Award nominations.

He was awarded a star on Hollywood's Walk of Fame March 2.
