Hundreds of Taiwanese stuck in virus epicenter

Dozens of family members and friends of Taiwanese citizens or permanent residents stuck in the coronavirus epicenter of Wuhan and other cities in China's Hubei Province rallied in downtown Taipei onFriday to urge Taiwan’s government to help their loved ones to get home. After an initial privately organized repatriation of 247 Taiwanese people from Wuhan on Feb. 3, Premier Su Tseng-chang called a halt to further private evacuations until proper arrangementsbetween the two sides could be made. He noted that one of the 247 evacuees later tested positive for the novel coronavirus COVID-19. Chinese authorities have denied any of the people who were evacuated had a fever or symptoms when they were approved to boardthat flight and has accused Taiwan of politicizing the matter, which Taiwan’s authorities have denied. The ongoing dispute between the two sides has caused the Taiwanese people in Hubei to be stranded in a precarious situation. See what their family membersand friends have to say.
