Taiwan signs deal with U.S. for 15% tariffs; partial opening of beef, pork markets

Taiwan has signed an Agreement on Reciprocal Trade with the United States, under which Washington will reduce tariffs on Taiwanese exports to America from 20 to 15 percent, with Taiwan granting preferential market access for U.S. industrial and agricultural exports, in particular cars, beef and pork. The deal, signed on Thursday (Washington time), was praised by President Lai Ching-te at a news conference in Taipei Friday as bringing "significant benefits for Taiwan’s industries and its overall economy."
