Taiwan to seek WHO validation after hepatitis C 'gold tier' mark

Taiwanese officials highlighted the country’s progress in eliminating hepatitis C at a press event in Taipei on Wednesday, saying diagnosis and treatment rates have surpassed 90 percent, meeting the World Health Organization’s (WHO) “gold tier” standard. President Lai Ching-te said the government plans to submit an application for hepatitis C elimination validation to the WHO by the end of the year, though it remains unclear how the submission would be handled given Taiwan is not a WHO member.
