Women's bowling team wins Taiwan's first gold at Tokyo Deaflympics

Taipei, Nov. 25 (CNA) Taiwan's women's bowling team bagged Taiwan's first gold medal at the 2025 Deaflympics in Tokyo on Monday after beating a team from South Korea.

The team comprised of Chang Yao-chien (張堯茜), Wang Yu-chin (王玉琴), Lin Ya-chin (林雅琴) and Chen I-miao (陳怡妙) advanced from the first round of the tournament as the first seed.

In the second round, the foursome finished fourth in the eight-team pool with four wins and three losses to squeak through to the semifinals, in which they defeated a team from Ukraine 2-1 to reach the gold medal round.

In the final against South Korea, Taiwan took two games in a row, 173-154 and 211-148, to secure the gold medal.

Also on Monday, the men's table tennis team settled for a silver medal after losing 3-0 against China.

The team, led by six-time Deaflympian Yang Jung-tsung (楊榮宗) and also including Wang Yi-hsiang (王顗翔), Lu Shih-chieh (盧仕杰), and Kuo Yueh-tung (郭岳東), earned Taiwan its sixth consecutive men's table tennis team medal at the event.

Taiwan's total medal haul as of Monday was one gold medal, five silvers and five bronzes.

Taiwan has 76 athletes competing in 11 sports at the ongoing Deaflympics, with the competition concluding Tuesday.
