Taipei, Nov. 3 (CNA) Taiwan Railway Corp. said Monday that it had resumed train services in both directions between Chiayi and Nanjing stations in Chiayi County after service was suspended when a person trespassing on the tracks was struck and killed.
Service was restored at 7:28 p.m.
In an earlier statement, the railway operator said an individual had walked onto the tracks between the two stations at 5:23 p.m.
The person, who has not been publicly identified, was first struck by a northbound Tze-Chiang limited express train, then flew onto neighboring tracks and was hit by a southbound local train, Taiwan Railway said.
Railway police and an ambulance were called to the scene.
Due to the fatal crash, train services in both directions between Chiayi and Nanjing (near Shuishang) stations were suspended, with passengers transferred to shuttle buses for that part of their route, the state-owned company said.
