Taipei, June 13 (CNA) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) on Friday issued extremely heavy rain advisories for six municipalities in Taiwan.
At press time, the CWA had imposed the notices on Chiayi City, Tainan, and Kaohsiung, as well as Pingtung, Chiayi, and Taitung counties.
The administration explained that the strong precipitations were a result of the effects of southwesterly winds.
The weather pattern could bring brief localized heavy rain and also extremely heavy rain to the aforementioned municipalities, the CWA said.
The administration also issued heavy rain advisories upon Changhua, Yunlin, Nantou and Taitung counties as well as Taichung.

Moreover, mountainous areas in Hualien and also Orchid and Green islands should watch out for the possibility of observing heavy rain, the CWA said.
The CWA added that the public should also be aware of the possibility of thunder and lightning on top of strong winds, while those in the mountainous areas should stay alert for a sudden rise in water levels and falling rocks.
Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said that the outflow of Tropical Storm Wutip and moisture from the tropical depression passing through Taiwan had made the weather unstable.
Heavy rain will gradually advance northward on Friday, while the lingering effects of the tropical depression will also cause localized strong winds.
Additionally, locations experiencing rainfall will see a slight drop in temperature.
Wu said that southern Taiwan will continue to have a high chance of seeing heavy rain on Saturday.
While the rain should ease on Sunday, Wu said southwesterly winds will once again bring moisture to Taiwan between Monday and Tuesday.
Wu went on to forecast that the weather between Wednesday and next Sunday would be hot and cloudy with a chance of sun, with mountainous areas of the country seeing a chance of brief showers or thundershowers.
