
Taipei, Jan. 13 (CNA) The National Police Agency (NPA) on Monday announced a list of personnel adjustments and promotions, including the promotion of highway police chief Liao Mei-ling (廖美鈴) who will become the NPA's first female deputy director-general.

According to the NPA, the list covers 146 high-ranking police officers approved by the Ministry of the Interior who will all assume their new positions on Jan. 16.
Chen Yong-li (陳永利), one of the NPA's three deputy directors-general, told reporters that the personnel changes were made based on the officers' various areas of expertise and work performance.
Chen praised Liao, who is currently commissioner of the National Highway Police Bureau, for her wealth of experience and many academic achievements, and said it will be the first time in the NPA's history that it has a female deputy director-general.
A graduate of Central Police University, Liao later went on to earn a Master's degree in political science at National Taiwan University.
She has assumed a number of positions in her professional career, including as assistant director-general of the NPA, commissioner of the Railway Police Bureau, and deputy commissioner of the Taoyuan Police Department.
