Taipei, Aug. 9 (CNA) Taiwan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said Friday it is investigating a suspected leak of official documents, amid reports that they were up for sale on the dark web.
MOFA said in a statement that it formed an investigation team soon after learning of the incident to determine the scope of the leak and how it happened.
It did not rule out the possibility that employees were involved. If confirmed, the case will be referred to prosecutors, the ministry said.
The ministry gave no further details, saying only that the documents mostly date from 2024 and may have been forged or altered before being posted on the dark web.
It warned against any attempt to forward or use those documents to "avoid breaking the law and jeopardizing national interests."
At the same time, MOFA said, it will review its electronic document management protocols and work to strengthen the security of the system.
