President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) has directed the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) to gain an immediate understanding about whether any Taiwanese have been affected by a powerful earthquake on Japan's northern island of Hokkaido that caused a landslide that engulfed houses Thursday, according to the Presidential Office.
