Taipei, Feb. 18 (CNA) The Taiwan International Orchid Show, incorporating the 2025 Asia Pacific Orchid Conference (APOC), will be held at the Taiwan Orchid Technology Park from March 8-23.

Huang Wen-jung (黃文榮), chairperson of the Taiwan Orchid Growers Association, told a Taipei news conference that the Orchid show would include a theme pavilion, a competition pavilion, a lifestyle pavilion, a business pavilion and a market pavilion.

This year's event will be themed "Next 20," to mark APOC's return to Taiwan after 20 years, Huang said.

He added that Tainan is an important industrial cluster for orchid cultivation and will continue to scale new heights in the next 20 years.

Tainan Mayor Huang Wei-che (黃偉哲) said that Taiwan holds one-third of the global market for moth orchids, over half of which are cultivated in Tainan.

He added that the industry value is continuing to rise and that Taiwan will keep perfecting its skills as Southeast Asian countries and Western countries try to catch up.

The orchid show will be held in the Taiwan Orchid Technology Park in Tainan from March 8-23.

As the opening day coincides with International Women's Day, women visiting the show on the day will receive free admittance, Huang Wei-che said.

Meanwhile, the 15th edition of the triennial APOC will also take place in Tainan from March 8-10.

Yao Chih-wang (姚志旺), deputy head of the Agriculture and Food Agency, said that the conference will have experts from overseas speaking about and discussing orchid cultivation, as well as events such as floral arrangement competitions to help the public experience the beauty of orchids.

He said that orchid plantation is a highly competitive industry and the Ministry of Agriculture has been exploring hardware and software upgrades since taking over the Taiwan Orchid Technology Park.

The agency estimates that Taiwan cultivated 955 hectares of orchids in 2024, with 260 hectares of moth orchids, 248 hectares of oncidiums (dancing doll orchids) and 100 hectares of cymbidiums (boat orchids).

The overall output value totals around NT$6.4 billion (US$195.48 million), with NT$6.1 billion from exports, Yao said.
