Taipei, Feb. 25 (CNA) With a continental cold front moving in, rain is forecast for areas around Taiwan Sunday, particularly in the north, according to the Central Weather Bureau.

As the cold front passes through Taiwan Sunday, northeasterly winds are expected to get stronger, bringing rain to areas around the island, with northern and eastern Taiwan to see the most apparent rainfall, while mountainous areas of central and southern Taiwan will see sporadic showers, said CWB forecaster Chang Cheng-chuan (張承傳).

Under the influence of the cold air brought by northeasterly winds and intermittent rain, daytime highs on Sunday are forecast to be 18-22 degrees Celsius in northern Taiwan and Hualien in the east and above 25 degrees in other areas of Taiwan. Central and southern parts of the island will see a large swing in daytime and nighttime temperatures, according to Chang.

The cold air is expected to last until Monday before the weather in Taiwan turns sunny and cloudy on Tuesday when northeasterly winds weaken.

However, cooler and rainy weather is forecast for northern Taiwan on Wednesday, with the arrival of another cold front coupled with northeasterly winds.

The weather will turn sunny on Thursday as the cold front weakens; and stable weather will persist until next Sunday, with the mercury likely to hit 25 degrees, according to Chang.
