Geneva, May 22 (CNA) A total of 16 countries attending the annual meeting of the World Health Assembly (WHA), from which Taiwan has been excluded, have voiced their support for Taipei's participation in WHA activities in the first two days of the meeting.

Health officials from the 16 countries, including Taiwan allies such as the Solomon Islands and Swaziland (eSwatini) as well as the United States, Japan, Australia, Germany and Canada, voiced their support in both open and closed-door sessions.

Taiwan had hoped to attend the WHA meeting as an observer, as it did from 2009 to 2016, but did not receive an invitation from the World Health Organization for a second straight year because of opposition from China.
