Government vows to protect academic freedom

Academic freedom is a constitutionally protected right that cannot be constricted or violated for any reason, a Presidential Office spokesman said Friday, in the wake of reports that several Taiwanese universities have signed pledges promising to abide by the "one China" principle, at the request of the Chinese side.
