Taipei, Jan. 16 (CNA) Chiang Nai-hsin (蔣乃辛) of the Kuomintang retained his legislative seat in Da'an District in Taipei Saturday, fending off his main rival, a first-time candidate.

With only two voting booths uncounted, Chiang garnered 72,976 or 46.05 percent of the vote, against second-placed Fan Yun's 56,059 or 35.37 percent.

Chiang, a two-term legislator, beat his main challenger, Fan Yun (范雲) who represented the Green Party and Social Democratic Party Alliance, in the Da'an electoral district, which is traditionally a blue-camp stronghold.

Fan is an associate professor of sociology at National Taiwan University. The Da'an electoral district had 12 legislative candidates, eight representing political parties and four independents.
