Occupation movement plans rally in front of Presidential Office

2014/03/27 16:29:28

Taipei, March 27 (CNA) The students who have occupied the nation's parliament since March 18 in protest over a service trade pact with China on Thursday called for a March 30 open-ended rally in front of the Presidential Office.

The rally will begin at 1 p.m., with no time set for its conclusion, said Lin Fei-fan, one of the leaders of the occupation movement.

The occupation of the Legislative Yuan will continue independent of the rally, he announced.

The purpose of the rally is for the crowd supporting the movement to expand from the Legislature to Ketagalan Boulevard, a few blocks away, said Chen Wei-ting, another of the student leaders.

Lin said the students have notified police of their plans but have not applied for a permit to hold the rally.

The authorities had no immediate comments.
