Foreign investors record net equity sell of NT$48 billion last week

Taipei, June 25 (CNA) Foreign institutional investors registered a net sell of almost NT$48 billion (US$1.48 billion)-worth of equities on the local main board last week, when the benchmark weighted index fell 1.70 percent, the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) said Monday.

Between Jan. 1 and June 22, foreign institutional investors' net sell of equities stood at NT$229.35 billion, TWSE data indicates.

According to the TWSE, which operates the local main board, foreign institutional investors sold a net 109.46 million shares of flat panel maker AU Optronics Corp., the largest amount among all of the listed firms on the main board.

Innolux Corp., another flat panel maker, came in second with a net sell of 70.14 million shares ahead of contract chipmaker Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. with a net sell of 63.49 million shares, the data shows.

As of June 22, the TWSE said, foreign institutional investors owned NT$12.98 trillion in market capitalization on the main board, accounting for 39.90 percent of the total and down NT$313.60 billion from June 15.
