Kaohsiung, Aug. 8 (CNA) Taiwan's scenic landscapes, gourmet foods and the integrity and kindness of its people are the main attractions for Chinese travelers, China's top official in charge of tourism affairs said Wednesday.
The "three beauties" draw a huge number of Chinese people to Taiwan, said Shao Qiwei, head of the National Tourism Administration, in a meeting of cross-strait tourism promotion associations in this southern Taiwan city.
"We would like to induce more Chinese travelers to visit the central and southern areas of Taiwan," he said.
Shao, heading a 70-member Chinese delegation, attended the meeting in his capacity as chairman of the Beijing-based Association for Tourism Exchange Across the Taiwan Straits, a non-governmental organization formed to handle cross-strait tourism exchanges in the absence of official ties.
At the cross-strait tourism exchange meeting, Taiwan's Tourism Bureau Director-General David Hsieh, who also serves as head of the Taiwan Strait Tourism Association, said that the number of Chinese travelers to the island since 2008 has exceeded 4.14 million.
Chinese visitors have helped generate tourism revenue of over NT$200 billion (US$6.67 billion) in Taiwan, he said, touting the mutual economic benefits of cross-strait tourism.
