Taipei, July 11 (CNA) Orientations will be held in five different cities later this month to advertise this year's Taiwan Excellence competition that offers prestigious brand awards for domestic products.
The orientations for the competition, which is now in its 21st year, will be held in Taichung on July 23, Tainan on 24, Kaoshiung on 27, Taipei on 30 and in Hsinchu on July 31.
The orientations are aimed at enhancing the image of Taiwanese brands and increasing their competitiveness on the market.
The applications will go through a process of careful selection by a committee of well-known scholars and experts, according to the Bureau of Foreign Trade under the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
The selection criteria will be based on four factors -- research and development, design, quality and marketing, the bureau said.
The winners will receive the Taiwan Excellence Award, which is the highest recognition of products that embody the concept of "innovalue" -- a combination of innovation and value.
The winning products will be promoted by the government at the international and domestic occasions, the bureau said.
The government will also advertise the Taiwanese brands through international and domestic broadcasts, the media, exhibitions and other events, the bureau said.
In previous years, a total of 6,326 products were entered in the competition, which demonstrates the innovative capability and brand value of Taiwan's industries, the bureau said.
Previous winners included products made by Apacer Technology, Motive Power Industry Corporation and Firich Enterprises Corporation.
The awards were launched in 1993 with the aim of giving greater international visibility to Taiwan's products and brands, advancing their development and creating an environment in which they can flourish, according to the bureau.
