Taipei, June 12 (CNA) The new headquarters of Taiwan's smartphone maker HTC Corp. will be inaugurated Wednesday in New Taipei, giving a shot in the arm of the city's economy.
The HTC headquarters in Xindian District, built at a cost of approximately NT$3.3 billion (US$110 million), is likely to create an estimated 2,000 job opportunities, with a focus on research and development positions, the city government said.
The city government has been trying aggressively to attract communications research industries to New Taipei, said Chiang Chun-ting, head of the city's Economic Development Department.
So far, the country's largest telecom operator Chunghwa Telecom has established a green communications park in New Taipei, while telecom equipment maker Ericsson moved its Taiwan headquarters to the city in September 2011.
The 17-story HTC headquarters, with 85,950 square meters of space, was designed based on green building standards. The first floor will house the HTC Education Foundation.
