Hundreds rally in Taipei over 'discriminatory' gay bar raid

An estimated 500 people rallied in Taipei's Ximending district on Sunday to protest a police raid on a gay bar the previous night, alleging excessive enforcement and discrimination. The demonstrators gathered outside Hanzhong Street Police Station and marched about 700 meters to Ximending Police Station, demanding an apology from police for their alleged misconduct. The Wanhua Precinct said the raid was conducted lawfully under a court-issued search warrant, and that officers found to have acted inappropriately toward people with disabilities had been disciplined. Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an said he had also ordered the precinct to review any inappropriate conduct.
