Despite 100% U.S. tariff on chips, Taiwan still confident

After U.S. President Donald Trump announced plans to levy a 100 percent tariff on semiconductor imports, a top Taiwanese official was confident Taiwan could withstand it, saying that Taiwan and its main competitors are starting on the same footing. A U.S. scholar told CNA that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC), the world's largest contract chipmaker, is likely to be "at the front of the line" for an exemption of the massive tariff due to its investment in the United States.
