Taipei, Sept. 1 (CNA) The San Francisco Giants have recalled Taiwanese pitcher Teng Kai-wei (鄧愷威) from the minor leagues and slated him to start Monday's game (U.S. time) against the Colorado Rockies in Denver.
The move was announced Sunday on X (formerly Twitter), after the Giants placed left-hander Carson Whisenhunt, the team's No. 7 prospect, on the 15-day injured list with a back strain retroactive to Aug. 28.
Teng is scheduled to face Rockies rookie Chase Dollander in what will be his fifth appearance and fourth start of the season. Dollander has a 2-11 record with a 6.55 ERA in 19 games this year.
Teng was promoted in early August and went 1-3 with an 8.78 ERA before being optioned back to the minors on Aug. 21.
Monday's matchup offers him a chance to secure his second major league win, as the Rockies sit last in the National League West and have dropped eight of their past 10 games.
The Giants, third in the division with a 68-69 record, beat the Baltimore Orioles 13-2 on Sunday for their seventh win in 10 games. They remain five games back of a Wild Card berth.
