Taipei, Nov. 26 (CNA) An 87-year-old man lost vital signs after being hit by a right-turning bus while crossing the street in Taipei's Shilin District around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, and was later pronounced dead at a hospital, according to local authorities.
The police received a report of the accident that took place at the interaction of Zhongzheng Road and Section 5 of Yanping North Road at 4:21p.m, according to the police.
Preliminary investigations found that the bus driver, a man surnamed Chen (陳), accidentally struck the 87-year-old Yang (楊) as he was crossing a crosswalk while the bus was traveling along Zhongzheng Road and making a right turn onto Section 6 of Yanping North Road, police said.
Yang suffered severe injuries and was found at the scene without vital signs, police said. He was rushed to Shin Kong Hospital for emergency treatment but was pronounced dead later that evening.
Police administered a breath test on the bus driver and ruled out alcohol consumption.
