Taipei, Oct. 7 (CNA) Sunny and hot weather is forecast across Taiwan on Tuesday, with daytime highs topping 30 degrees Celsius in most areas, according to the Central Weather Administration (CWA).

The agency issued heat advisories earlier in the day for four cities and counties, including an orange alert for Hsinchu County and Taichung, where temperatures are forecast to reach 36 degrees for three consecutive days.

Yellow alerts were issued for Miaoli County and Tainan, where temperatures could hit 36 degrees on Tuesday.

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary outdoor activities and protect themselves from the sun. The CWA also urged extra care for the elderly, children, people with chronic illnesses, those who are overweight or taking medication, as well as outdoor workers and athletes.

In its 11 a.m. update, the CWA said the northeast monsoon will strengthen later in the day, bringing partly cloudy to sunny skies across Taiwan and the outlying islands of Penghu, Kinmen and Matsu.

Afternoon thundershowers are expected in central and southern regions.

From the evening, brief scattered showers may develop along Keelung's north coast, in northeastern Taiwan, mountainous areas of Greater Taipei and the Hengchun Peninsula. Isolated brief showers are also possible in eastern and southeastern areas.

Daytime highs are forecast to reach 31-32 degrees in eastern Taiwan and 34-35 degrees in the west. Temperatures in Hsinchu, Miaoli, Taichung and Tainan are likely to peak around 36 degrees. Lows will range between 25 and 27 degrees.

Meanwhile, independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) said occasional brief showers are expected along the north coast and in eastern Taiwan on Wednesday.

Citing European weather models, Wu added that moisture east of Taiwan will increase slightly from Wednesday through Friday -- coinciding with National Day -- bringing a chance of intermittent showers in northern and eastern regions. Eastern Taiwan is also likely to see occasional rainfall over the weekend.
