Taipei, May 30 (CNA) Houston right-hander Teng Kai-wei (鄧愷威), the only Taiwanese pitcher active in Major League Baseball (MLB), recorded a no decision on Friday after allowing three runs over five innings in the Astros' 5-4, 10-inning loss to the Milwaukee Brewers.
Teng, who won his previous two starts, struck out seven while giving up three hits and four walks. Of his 91 pitches, 53 were strikes.
The Astros opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning on a solo home run by Cam Smith, his sixth of the season. It marked the third consecutive game started by Teng in which Houston scored first.
The Brewers answered in the following inning when David Hamilton launched a solo shot to left field to tie the game.
Houston regained the lead in the fourth, scoring three runs with the help of a walk, two doubles, a sacrifice fly, and a throwing error.
Teng entered the fifth inning having thrown 67 pitches and quickly recorded two outs on a groundout and a strikeout. However, he then walked Christian Yelich before Jackson Chourio hit a two-run homer to deep center field to cut the Astros' lead to 4-3.
After issuing another walk, Teng retired William Contreras on one pitch to end the inning and complete his outing.
Teng did not return for the sixth inning. He is now 3-3 with a 2.57 ERA this season.
Teng was in line for the win before the Brewers tied the game at 4-4. Milwaukee then scored the winning run in the 10th inning.
After dropping the opener of the three-game series, the Astros fell to 26-33 on the season.
