39.3 degree heat recorded in New Taipei on Wednesday afternoon

Taipei, July 2 (CNA) The Central Weather Administration on Wednesday afternoon updated its heat advisories, warning of temperatures over 38 degrees Celsius in Taoyuan, New Taipei and Kinmen County.

The highest temperatures recorded Wednesday as of 3:36 p.m. were 39.3 degrees in Sanxia in New Taipei and 39.1 degrees in Taoyuan's Luzhu District, according to CWA data.

Elsewhere, the outlying Kinmen County located just off the coast of the Chinese city of Xiamen recorded a temperature of 38.1 degrees, while a temperature of 37.3 degrees was registered in Zhudong in Hsinchu County.

In its latest heat advisories, the CWA warned that Taipei, Taichung, Tainan, Kaohsiung, Chiayi City as well as Changhua, Yunlin, Hualien, Taitung Counties will experience maximum temperatures reaching 36 degrees for three consecutive days.

Meanwhile, Keelung City, Hsinchu City, Hsinchu County, Miaoli County, Chiayi County and Yilan County will see maximum temperatures reaching 36 degrees on Wednesday afternoon, the CWA said.

Also, heavy rain advisories were issued in Tainan and Chiayi County, indicating an accumulation of 40 millimeters of rain in one hour or 80 millimeters within 24 hours, according to the CWA.

The hot and sunny weather is expected to persist in northern Taiwan until Saturday, while other parts of the country can expect afternoon showers, which will slightly bring down daytime highs to 32-34 degrees, according to the CWA.
