Taipei, June 22 (CNA) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) said Sunday that a tropical depression off Iwo Jima in Japan could strengthen into a tropical storm or typhoon.
According to CWA Forecaster Chang Cheng-chuan (張承傳), further tropical depressions may also form in the South China Sea in the coming days.
Meanwhile, the weather across Taiwan is forecast to be mostly sunny to cloudy until Wednesday, with brief, localized afternoon thundershowers in Greater Taipei, the northeast, and mountainous areas.
The Greater Taipei area, Hualien and central and southern parts of Taiwan could see highs of 36 degrees Celsius between Monday and Wednesday, with temperatures of 32-35 degrees forecast for other parts of the country.
Chang noted that southerly cloud masses moving north are expected to bring more rain across the country from Thursday to Sunday, including brief localized showers in southern and southeastern regions, and afternoon thundershowers in other parts of Taiwan.
