Taoyuan, June 22 (CNA) A global system malfunction halted automated baggage handling at Taoyuan International Airport for almost an hour on Sunday, causing delays to three flights.
In a news release, Taoyuan International Airport Corp. said the disruption began at 12:30 p.m. after the SITA-operated baggage source message (BSM) system used at both its terminals suffered a worldwide outage.
The company said it immediately activated its emergency response mechanism and coordinated with airlines and check-in counters to reroute baggage handling and manually sort baggage to minimize disruption.
Following emergency repairs by SITA, the BSM system at Taoyuan resumed normal operations at 1:15 p.m.
Other international airports also affected by the SITA BSM system failure included Singapore Changi, South Korea's Incheon, Australia's Sydney, Beijing Capital and Thailand's Bangkok airports, the company added.
