Taipei, March 12 (CNA) The main departure hall and other parts of Terminal 2 at Taiwan's Taoyuan International Airport lost power at around noon on Wednesday, causing confusion among passengers before electricity was fully restored over an hour later.
The outage, the cause of which is still being investigated, began around 12 p.m., and affected different parts of Terminal 2, including the check-in gates, the security screening area and some duty-free shops.
Parts of the terminal immediately activated backup power sources, while others remained dark until power was restored in some of the affected areas starting at 12:23 p.m.
Power was fully restored at 1:13 p.m.
In a statement, Taoyuan International Airport Corp. said the outage had affected floors 1-4 in the second terminal's main building and the airport's No. 4 parking lot.
After the outage was reported, the airport activated an emergency response team at 12:05 p.m. and began efforts to redirect power from other sources to the affected areas at 12:13 p.m., the airport operator said.
Equipment on the airport's runways and taxiways, including lighting and navigation systems continued to operate regularly during the outage, and the arrival and departure of flights was not affected, the airport said.
A source at the airport told CNA that when the outage hit, the passport control counters activated backup power sources and continued their work manually, while the automatic immigration gates were closed to conserve power.
Other facilities, including the check-in gates and the X-ray machines in the security screening area, could not be operated during the outage, the source said, corroborating photos online that showed long lines in the departure hall.
