Promoting independence 'not necessary, nor possible': ex-president

For Taiwan "independence is unnecessary" and also "impossible to achieve," said former President Ma Ying-jeou (馬英九) Sunday in reply to a reporter's question about Chinese President Xi Jinping's (習近平) recent comments on Bejing's Taiwan policy.
