Taipei, June 24 (CNA) The number of passengers handled by Taoyuan International Airport, the main gateway to Taiwan, topped the 20 million mark from Jan. 1-June 4, at a time when the post COVID-19 tourism industry continues to boom, according to the airport operator.
From January to May, Taoyuan Airport handled 19.57 million passengers and the volume surpassed 20 million as of June 4, which was about 96.5 percent of the volume in 2019, prior to COVID-19, statistics released by Taoyuan International Airport Corp. showed.
The company estimates Taoyuan Airport will see passenger volume reach 8.53 million, from July to August, an increase of 9.5 percent from the same period of 2024.
Based on that estimate, the July to August passenger volume is expected to beat 8.52 million recorded in the same period of 2019, to hit a new high, the company added.
The airport operator said passengers should ensure they hold valid travel documents, check flight information and arrive at the airport at least three hours before departure, while taking advantage of the airport's smart services such as a smartphone App or automated check-in equipment to minimize waiting time.
