Safety concerns remain on Taiwan's railways

Prosecutors in Taiwan have detained two suspects in connection with Taiwan's deadliest rail accident in seven decades on April 2 that killed 49 people and injured more than 200. The collision occurred when a vehicle working on a slope maintenance project rolled onto the tracks just as the train carrying nearly 500 people was approaching a nearby tunnel. The project's contractor is suspected of serious safety lapses and state-owned Taiwan Railways Administration of a lack of supervision.
