Taipei, June 30 (CNA) HTC Corporation announced Tuesday that it will sponsor NorthEast United Football Club, a team in the Indian Super League, for the second year in a row.

The announcement came after HTC Chairwoman Cher Wang (王雪紅) said the company's first-quarter revenue in India had increased 150 percent year-on-year.

Wang made the sponsorship announcement at a promotional event in Taipei that was also attended by Bollywood actor John Abraham, who is chairman of NorthEast United FC.

The HTC chairwoman presented Abraham with a customized HTC One M9+ smartphone inscribed with his first name, in a gesture that signified the cooperation with the football club and Wang's commitment to expanding into the Indian market.

She noted that the Indian Super League is the fourth most-watched football league in the world, with an audience of 430 million in the stadiums last year.

It is the second consecutive year that HTC is sponsoring NorthEast United.
