Taipei, Dec. 14 (CNA) Visitors to Taiwan's Forest Recreation Areas (FRA) now have the choice of using one of four mobile wallets to pay the entrance fees, an official with the Forestry Bureau said Friday.

The entrance fees can be paid with Apple Pay, Samsung Pay, Google Pay, or Taiwan Pay at 12 FRAs and two train lines in recreational areas, said the bureau's Deputy Director Yang Horn-chi (楊宏志).

He said the new system was adopted through a joint effort by the bureau and Chunghwa Telecom after solving the problem of unstable electricity and Internet service in the country's mountainous areas.

The use of the digital wallet payment system is part of the Cabinet's goal of increasing the rate of mobile payments to 90 percent by 2025, according to Yang.

The 12 FRAs at which mobile wallet payments are now being accepted are Taipingshan, Manyueyuan, Neidong, Dongyanshan, Basianshan, Dasyueshan, Aowanda, Alishan, Kenting, Shuangliou, Jhihben, and Chihnan, while the two train services are the Taipingshan bong-bong train and Wulai mini train, he said.
