Taipei, July 2 (CNA) The number of holidays and weekends in 2019 will total 115 days, including six long weekends lasting three days or longer, according to a calendar released Monday by the Directorate- General of Personnel Administration.

The six extended public holidays are the Lunar New Year holiday (Feb. 2-10), the 228 Peace Memorial Day (Feb. 28-March 3), Children's Day and Tombsweeping Festival (April 4-7), the Dragon Boat Festival (June 7-9), the Mid-Autumn Festival (Sept. 13-15) and the Founding Day of the Republic of China (Oct. 10-13), according to the administration.

Officials said that when a public holiday falls on a Tuesday or Thursday, the administration will make arrangements to turn it into an extended holiday by using the previous Saturday as an official work makeup day, with the exception of some special situations.

For instance, Feb. 7 during the Lunar New Year holiday falls on a Thursday, so the following day, Friday Feb. 8, will be included in the nine-day public holiday. The previous Saturday, Jan. 26, would normally be a makeup day, but as that coincides with the national General Scholastic Ability Test to determine student university admissions, the administration will use Jan. 19 as an official makeup day, the officials said.
