Taipei, June 27 (CNA) The main line of Alishan Forest Railway in Chiayi, southern Taiwan, resumed operations Wednesday after service was suspended March 12 to allow safety maintenance to be carried out.
The first train on Wednesday departed from Chiayi Station at 9 a.m. and arrived at Fenqihu, the final destination at 11:20 a.m.
Tourists from around the world seized the opportunity to make the trip. One Swiss passenger who traveled on the railway said she was looking forward to the magnificent views.
The Alishan Forest Railway and Cultural Heritage Office, newly established by the Forestry Bureau under the Council of Agriculture, will take charge of operating the railway from July 1, according to an announcement by the bureau.
