Taipei, March 23 (CNA) Comfortable weather can be expected around Taiwan on Friday as a continental cold air mass begins to weaken, the Central Weather Bureau (CWB) said.

In the early hours of Friday, temperatures were 10-13 degrees Celsius in northern and central Taiwan as well as in Yilan and Hualien, and 16-18 degrees in the rest of the country, CWB data showed.

The lowest temperature, 9.3 degrees, was recorded in New Taipei's Banqiao District, the bureau said.

During the daytime, however, temperatures are expected to rise significantly to 22-24 degrees in northern and eastern Taiwan, and 26 degrees in the center and south, the bureau said.

The weather will remain mostly clear and stable over the next week, with daytime highs of around 30 degrees, the bureau forecast.

Meanwhile, it said, a low-pressure system currently near Guam may develop into a tropical depression late Friday and become a tropical storm by Sunday or Monday.

The system, however, is expected to move in a northwesterly direction toward Japan and is not likely to affect Taiwan, according to the CWB.
