Asunción, Aug. 14 (CNA) Taiwan's President Tsai Ing-wen (蔡英文) met with Taiwanese staff of technical missions in Paraguay Tuesday and said that her administration will increase its subsidies for expatriate technical staff in 2019.

Tsai, who was in the South American country on the third day of a nine-day trip, announced that subsidies for accommodation of expatriate technical staff and education for their children will be raised.

The increase will bring the subsidy standard for Taiwanese expatriate technical staff closer to that of expatriate diplomatic staff, according to Tsai.

Tsai also praised the dedication of Taiwanese technical staff in Paraguay, noting for example the Taiwanese orchids she saw at a banquet with Paraguay's outgoing president, Horacio Cartes, earlier in the day.

Tsai said the orchids represent the efforts of Taiwan's technical missions in Paraguay.

In terms of a Taiwanese project on the elevation of management efficiency in medical information in Paraguay, Tsai said it has helped improve medical services in Paraguay's remote areas tremendously.

Tsai also recognized the importance of a Taiwan-sponsored Chinese teaching program in Paraguay, saying that it strengthens the ties between the two countries.
