Taipei, Aug. 18 (CNA) Premier Lin Chuan (林全) on Friday approved the resignation of state-owned CPC Corp, Taiwan (CPC) Chairman Chen Chin-de (陳金德) to take responsibility for a massive blackout earlier this week, Cabinet spokesman Hsu Kuo-yung (徐國勇) announced.

Chen is scheduled to hold a press conference at around noon to explain his decision, Hsu said in a press release.

Chen has been widely criticized since Tuesday afternoon when a disruption in the CPC's natural gas supply caused a power outage that affected more than 6.68 million households as well as factories and businesses in 17 cities and counties across Taiwan.
