Taipei, May 18 (CNA) Taipei City' Urban Planning Commission on Thursday considered a proposal to build a concert hall and library on a site east of Daan Forest Park.

The site is currently used by the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT), which plans to relocate to a new building in Neihu District possibly by the end of the year.

The planned green building will include a 1,200-1,500 seat concert hall, Taipei Symphony Orchestra, Taipei Chinese Orchestra and a smart digital library, which will serve as Taipei Public Library's headquarters.

The new library will utilize intelligent systems such as an automated warehouse, robot-assisted guided tours and book searches.

The proposed building, which is environmentally responsible and resource efficient, will be built on a site of 26,764 square meters. The roads to the east and west of the site will be widened to 12-16 meters, to improve access and traffic flow to Daan Forest Park and other nearby public facilities.

The proposal has yet to be approved and there is currently no timetable for its implementation.
