Taipei, Jan. 22 (CNA) Budget carriers Tigerair Taiwan and T'way Air of South Korea have entered into a codeshare agreement to provide more convenient services to their customers, Chang Horng-jong (張鴻鐘), chairman of the Taiwanese airline, said Monday.

It is the first time that Tigerair Taiwan, a budget carrier subsidiary of Taiwan's China Airlines, has established such an agreement with a foreign airline, Chang said.

"The partnership is aimed not only at bringing Tigerair Taiwan and T'way Air together, but also at expanding the Taiwan-Korea tourism business," he said.

In the initial stage, the two budget carriers will offer more options for codeshare flights, starting with their Taoyuan-Daegu and Taoyuan-Busan routes, with passengers having the choice of booking on the website of either airline, according to Tigerair Taiwan.

Chang said he hoped the partnership would help provide more flexible and convenient services for travelers in Taiwan and South Korea.

Under the agreement, the codeshare services will be effective March 25-Oct. 27, involving nine round-trip flights per week between Taoyuan and Daegu -- seven run by T'way Air and two by Tigerair Taiwan, Tigerair Taiwan said.

On the Taoyuan-Busan route, there will be three round-trip flights per week, all using Tigerair Taiwan aircraft because T'way Air is not yet operating on that route, Tigerair Taiwan said.

Tigerair Taiwan flies to 15 international destinations, with departures from Taoyuan, Taichung, and Kaohsiung. Three of its destinations are in South Korea, with the airline flying Taoyuan-Daegu, Taoyuan-Busan, and Taoyuan-Jeju Island, according to its website.

T'way Air, meanwhile, has four domestic and 21 international destinations, operating Songshan-Gimpo, Taoyuan-Daegu, Taichung-Incheon, and Kaohsiung-Incheon on its Taiwan routes, its website shows.
