Taipei, Aug. 16 (CNA) Taiwanese powerlifter Hsieh Tsung-ting (謝宗庭) hoisted a silver medal at the 2025 World Games in Chengdu, China on Saturday, finishing second in the men's lightweight equipped powerlifting competition.
Hsieh finished the event with a score of 105.81, after achieving a 285 kilogram squat, a 210kg bench press, and a 280kg deadlift.
He beat French competitor Hassan El Belghiti, who placed third in the event that was won by Japanese Satake Yusuke.
It was Hsieh's third silver medal since he started competing in World Games in 2001, and his medal tally now stands at one gold, three silvers and one bronze.
In an interview after Saturday's contest, the 43-year-old powerlifter said he was very happy with his performance and was pleased to win another medal for Taiwan.
He said that surprisingly, he had performed better than in his training sessions, when he often struggled with a 275kg squat.
"At age 43 now, I don't know if I will compete in another World Games," he said.
Another Taiwanese competitor in the men's lightweight equipped powerlifting event, Lin Yi-chun (林逸鈞), was on track Saturday for a podium finish but failed in his last deadlift attempt, finishing fifth with a score of 104.28.
