Taipei, Nov. 9 (CNA) Taiwanese archer Tang Chih-chun (湯智鈞) settled for silver at the 2023 Asian Archery Championships in Thailand on Thursday after being defeated by Kim Woo-jin of South Korea 2-6.
In the finals, Tang led 2-0 after winning the first set, but Kim, a three-time World Archery Champion, won the second to bring the score to 2-2.
In the following two sets, despite Tang scoring 29 points, his Korean opponent managed a perfect 10 with each of his arrows, leading to Tang losing both sets 29-30.
Liu Chan-ming (劉展明), Tang's coach, told CNA after the match that despite Tang's loss, lessons had been learned and that he will perform better during the qualifying phase of the 2024 Olympics.
"Tang has been in good condition during this trip to Thailand, and I've told him not to get too immersed in the details and to be open-minded about his performance," Liu said, adding, "I think we've seen some recent progress in his game."
Liu added that Tang is already a world-class athlete and that he is confident Tang will be able to "snatch a ticket to the Olympics again."
Meanwhile, in the wake of the Asian Archery Championships, Taiwan's archers are set to attend the qualifying phase for the Olympics in Bangkok, with those who win first and second place set to earn a place in the competition.
The 2023 Asian Archery Championships are being held from Nov. 3-10 in Bangkok.
