Taiwan issues sea warning for Typhoon Saudel

Taipei, Aug. 27 (CNA) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) issued a sea warning for Typhoon Saudel at 8:30 a.m. Thursday, urging vessels operating or navigating in waters off northern Taiwan to remain on high alert.

As of 8 a.m., Saudel was located 560 kilometers east-northeast of the outlying Matsu Islands and was moving west-southwest at 12 kph before turning west at 18 kph toward China's southeast coast, CWA data showed.

The typhoon had a radius of 200 kilometers, with maximum sustained winds of 126 kph and gusts of up to 162 kph.

Saudel is forecast to pose a threat to waters off northern Taiwan, particularly near Matsu, the CWA said.

Long waves are likely along the Keelung North Coast, eastern coast, including Lanyu and Green Island, Hengchun Peninsula and Matsu from Thursday through Friday, with winds and waves gradually strengthening in waters around Taiwan, the CWA said.

Waves of more than three meters are expected along the coasts of Matsu, Lanyu and Green Island, and people visiting the coast are urged to exercise caution, it added.
