Taichung, Oct. 7 (CNA) Taichung prosecutors on Tuesday sought the continued detention of a man accused of pushing a Taiwan Railway station worker onto the tracks after entering the platform without a ticket.
The Taichung District Prosecutors Office said the 39-year-old suspect, surnamed Chen (陳), is being investigated for attempted murder.
After questioning Chen on Tuesday morning, prosecutors said he poses a flight risk and requested his detention.
The incident occurred Monday afternoon at Wuquan Station in Taichung, where Chen reportedly entered the station without a ticket.
Noticing this, a station worker tried to get Chen to leave the platform, during which the latter became agitated and pushed the worker onto the tracks, according to the Taichung Precinct of the Railway Police Bureau.
The worker suffered a broken ankle but managed to climb back onto the platform, and was taken to China Medical University Hospital, where he is scheduled to undergo surgery on Tuesday, police said.
Railway police were notified of the incident at 3:44 p.m. Monday, and Chen was arrested at around 6 p.m. after fleeing the scene, according to police.
