Taipei, Oct. 6 (CNA) A version of an iconic Taiwanese pudding brand with reversed proportions of egg-flavored pudding and caramel topping will soon go on sale in a limited-time promotion, making a reality of what began as an April Fool's Day joke, local media reported Monday.
News of the promotional product originally spread on social media, where users claimed the "reverse" version of Uni-President Enterprises Corp.'s caramel egg pudding ("Tong Yi Pudding") would be sold at 7-Eleven stores from Oct. 13 to Nov. 2.
On Monday, several Taiwanese news outlets confirmed the product's limited-time rollout, citing interviews with 7-Eleven employees.
Some 7-Eleven locations were already offering pre-sales of the new product to customers in store Line groups, the news reports said.
According to the reports, 520,000 cups of the reverse pudding will go on sale during the three-week promotion, either in packs of three for NT$54 (US$1.77) or in packs of six with three original flavor and three reverse puddings for NT$75.
The idea of reversing the proportions of egg-flavored pudding and caramel topping in the dessert stems from a 2024 social media post, in which Uni-President claimed it was releasing a version of the pudding consisting of 87 percent caramel topping for one day only.
The gag led to backlash against the company from some netizens, who went to their local 7-Eleven store searching for the product only to be disappointed.
