Taipei, Sept. 15 (CNA) Temperatures around Taiwan remained in the high 30s on Monday, with Wugu District in New Taipei recording the highest temperature at 39 degrees Celsius, according to Central Weather Administration (CWA) data.

The temperature in Wugu was recorded at 12:10 p.m., while nearby Sanxia District reached 38.3 degrees at 12:40 p.m., CWA data as of 4:30 p.m. showed.

Neihu District in Taipei, Sigang District in Tainan, and Luzhu District in Taoyuan recorded temperatures above 37 degrees, while parts of Chiayi, Pingtung, and Taitung reached highs of 36 degrees or more.

"Orange" heat advisories were still in effect Monday afternoon for parts of Taipei and New Taipei in the north and Pingtung and Taitung counties in the south, warning of potential highs of up to 38 degrees.

The highest temperature ever recorded in Taiwan was 40.2 degrees in Taitung County on May 9, 2004, according to historical CWA data.
