
Taipei, May 18 (CNA) The Central Weather Administration (CWA) on Sunday forecast hot and unstable conditions across Taiwan for the day, with a chance of brief heavy rain in Greater Taipei and the northeastern part of the island in the afternoon.
Additional heavy rain is expected in the eastern and northeastern parts of Taiwan during the evening, the national weather agency said.
Temperatures are also expected to be high, ranging between 31 and 35 degrees Celsius across Taiwan, with areas around mountainous terrain in the south reaching up to 36 degrees.
Kaohsiung and Pingtung County were placed under an orange heat alert around noon on Sunday with three consecutive days of 36-degree heat expected, while Tainan received a yellow alert for a potential single-day high of 36 degrees, the CWA said.
The CWA also forecast brief showers or thunderstorms for the outlying islands of Matsu and Kinmen, while Penghu is expected to remain mostly cloudy to sunny.

Temperatures in Penghu will range between 25 to 31 degrees, Kinmen from 24 to 31 degrees, and Matsu from 23 to 28 degrees, the agency said.
Independent meteorologist Wu Der-rong (吳德榮) urged the public to take precautions against sunburn and heatstroke.
Looking ahead to the next few days, Wu said Taiwan will be mostly dry and sunny with temperatures rising.
